Why do I need a jewelry appraisal?

Insurers usually ask for a written appraisal to insure a ring or other valuable piece, and an appraisal helps when dividing an estate or deciding what to sell. It describes the metal, the stones and their measurements, and states a value for the stated purpose.

How often should jewelry be reappraised?

Many insurers and appraisers suggest updating an appraisal every few years, because gold and diamond prices change. An outdated appraisal can leave a piece underinsured.
